Unveiling My Styling Journey: The First Shoot Chronicles
During my pursuit of a Masters in Accessory Design at Birmingham City University (2014-2015), I stumbled upon my passion for styling. Envious of classmates in the styling course, I decided to forge my path, embarking on a styling adventure that would forever mark my journey.
The catalyst for my first-ever styling shoot was the captivating Astrid, a fellow student I met in my accommodation. Intrigued by her studies in music, I envisioned a concept blending dark edginess with somber undertones, infused with street elements and her violin as a striking accessory.
Teaming up with photographer Steve and makeup artist Michelle, our collaborative energy brought the vision to life. This experience became a masterclass in decision-making – from outdoor versus indoor settings, lighting choices, to background selection. Navigating public spaces was an unexpected lesson, ensuring the concept harmonized seamlessly.
The shoot unveiled a myriad of lessons – sourcing clothes and accessories, meticulous care to facilitate returns, and the delicate art of ideating hair and makeup. Each decision became a brushstroke, painting the narrative of my stylistic expression.
For those hesitating on their creative journey, my advice echoes a simple truth: just start. The cringe-worthy reminiscence of your inaugural shoot serves as a testament to growth, highlighting the path you've paved and the exciting journey ahead.
As the new year unfolds, embrace the discomfort, step into the unknown, and let curiosity be your guide.
Here's to a year of pushing boundaries, discovering untapped potential, and satisfying the hunger for creative expression. Happy New Year, and may this year propel you toward new horizons!
