Teachers’s Day: Celebrating the work of my student in style
Today, as India continues to celebrate and honor the remarkable work of teachers, thanks to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was born on this day in 1888. He was India’s first vice president and second president. He was also a great scholar, philosopher and Bharat Ratna recipient.
Well, I wish to shift the celebration to one of my student’s work as it makes me a very proud teacher. As all this and more re-affirms my calling to teach and invest in the lives of students.
Owning a 12 year experience in stitching while hailing from a family that’s been highly involved in the silk cocoon industry, my student Preethi Bachrgowda chose silk as her inspiration for her mini collection as part of the curriculum at JM School of Design & Business during my term there. She researched and explored the versatility of silk and how it can be worn for any function occasion, season and even any religion. It is universal!
This first outfit from the collection is a gorgeous gold off- shoulder blouse with an overlapped cross-over design paired with an asymmetrical layered skirt in the same tone. When it comes to styling this eclectic piece I opted for a twisted low bun with a maang tikka and a matching choker while keeping the hands and ears bare.
This second outfit from the collection is a ravishing princess-cut blouse combined with doll sleeves which is the perfect choice on this gray semi-circular paneled skirt. Though the silhouette is simple and chic the half-sari drape just transforms this entire ensemble, When it comes to styling this eclectic outfit I opted for a twisted low bun with a maang tikka and a bare neck and bare arms.
The third and final look in this gorgeous fusion collection: Silk, includes an embroidered off-white silk torso attached to a lower silk bodice in red. The ensemble is a boat neck princess line floor-length gown with a semi-circular skirt for the bottom. And don’t miss the ruffle layered sleeves that add a contemporary edge to an otherwise seemingly Indian/ethnic attire. For styling, I have allowed the garment to speak louder than anything else and added a matching maang tikka and a low bun to finish off the look!
These are some close-up stills beautifully captured in the second outfit, through a looking glass! It adds a bit of mystery and drama to the entire concept and shoot!
Hope you enjoyed the way I styled my student’s work! Would love to know your thoughts on this read in the comments down below!
